Frequent Questions & Answers

Q: When giving you the measurements, which comes first, the width or the length?
A: The width always comes first, followed by how long the window is. For further questions on measuring please contact us.

Q: Are faux wood blinds better than real wood blinds?
A: Usually we do not use the vinyl faux wood blinds in areas like dining rooms, living rooms or under fabric draperies where an equal level of richness or quality is called for. This depends on many factors such as budgetary dictates and intended use of the spaces involved where real stained hardwood could enrich the area. Using sandblasted vanes and upgraded valances, faux woods can be applied in many areas effectively and they cost less.
As for durability or length of use they are about equal, with vinyl being better where there is moisture.

Q: How do you clean “Duettes”, or any cellular honeycomb shade?
A: You use 1⁄4 cup of ‘Woolite” in 4" of warm water. This means removing the shade and placing it in the bathtub to soak. You can use a soft brush on spots before rinsing twice with clear water and laying the shade out flat on a towel to dry. When the shade is re-installed it must be drawn up tight at the top and left for the fabric to regain its memory before regular use.

Q: Do you charge to come out?
A: No, we do not charge to come to your home or office. We offer a relaxed in home shopping experience that includes seeing samples and a free estimate.

Q: Should we paint first, before window coverings?
A: It's best if you can, but with bracketed treatments such as shades
and blinds you can just pop them out of the brackets for painting. With drapes on rings you can just slide them off the rod. Even with shutters you can just pull the hinge pins and remove the panels for masking and painting. If you're real busy, you can just paint later.

Q: Are vinyl shutters easier to clean?
A: For interior spaces we use the same feather dusters and damp cloth for both hardwood and PVC shutters.

Q: Are vinyl shutters as good as wood?
A: In every day residential use basswood shutters will last about twice as long as vinyl. Still, next to a wet tub or shower area use vinyl.
